If one wants to disagree or to comment on Gay Marriage, or Homosexual content in the schools, one had better do it in his or her own home, and even then had better be careful. This is a criminal offense now. This is how totalitarianism always starts, making free speech illeagle "for the good of the people" but not so much later, "for the good of the government". Laugh while you can monkey boys, If your country slides much farther, it will be swallowed up by the US, as a security threat, for the "good of the people". posted by: James Bow (reply) post date: 03.17.05 (6:40 am) Reply to: LynnKramer It is not true that it is a crime to "openly oppose the government". You want to disagree with the idea of Gay Marriage, you are more than free to do so. That's freedom of speech. Others will criticize you for it. That's also freedom of speech. The proposed legislation recognizing the legality of same-sex marriage across Canada does not force religious denominations to marry people they do not want to marry. The real start towards a totalitarian state comes when a group of people start demonizing innocents, and claim that the will of the people must be subverted, by force (or annexation by a neighbour), to avoid the "security threat". posted by: LynnKramer (reply) post date: 03.17.05 (8:11 am) Check again James, IT IS A CRIME to oppose the Canadian Gov. on same sex marriage, and any other topic, even inside a church, it is a crime now for a minister to talk against the state from the pulpit or even at all in his own church. It has been thus for some 2 years now. posted by: James Bow (reply) post date: 03.18.05 (3:42 am) So, who's been charged? Can you list specific incidents? In Kitchener-Waterloo, an official of the Waterloo Region Catholic School Board wrote a letter that was read through all the schools saying that the government should not approve of gay marriage because doing so would "render the institution without meaning". Now, speaking as a straight, married Christian, I cannot understand that sentiment. No way same sex marriage renders my marriage without meaning. But the fact remains that the board official made the statement, it was read through the school board, and nothing happened to the guy. He wasn't arrested, and his career is far from over. And, more importantly, there was no call for the guy to be arrested or fired. Because he was speaking his mind, and there is no crime about speaking your mind. posted by: newbie (reply) post date: 03.19.05 (10:29 am) http://vancouver.cbc.ca/regional/servlet/View?filename=bc_needles-study20050318 Safe injection site has reduced the use of dirty needles. posted by: newbie (reply) post date: 03.23.05 (10:59 am) Check again James, IT IS A CRIME to oppose the Canadian Gov. on same sex marriage, and any other topic, even inside a church, it is a crime now for a minister to talk against the state from the pulpit or even at all in his own church. Show me how this law prevents people from speaking up against same sex marriage or publically criticizing the government. You're either lying, or you're misinterpreting the law. posted by: James Bow (reply) post date: 03.23.05 (7:20 pm) If you are referring to the hate crimes legislation, which is the only legislation of substance I can recall this government ever passing in the past two years, you are wrong to say that it makes it illegal to criticize the government or to comment on homosexuality from the pulpit. The hate crimes legislation only deals with acts of violence and advocating acts of violence. Last time I checked most churches on the homosexual issue were talking about saving homosexuals, not exterminating them. This is a law about vicious slandar, like saying that the holocaust never happened. Churches are perfectly free to say that homosexuality is a sin, just like adultery. You can even make a link between homosexuality and pedophilia and not be charged. Even though no such link exists; and homosexuals are as likely to be pedophiles as heterosexuals. You will be criticized, but those people criticizing you will be exercising the same rights to free speech that you yourself exercised, without threat of criminal action, when you made your initial comments. posted by: Jimmy (reply) post date: 03.26.06 (10:00 am) I would say you Gotcha a great viewpoint. |
