PS: what's the job market like? posted by: hines2damax (reply) post date: 11.08.04 (6:54 am) It's sad so many people are agaist gay marriage, it's not going to be the end of the world if 2 people are in love, who cares what sex they are if there in love, or not in love, they deserve the same rights as every one else. Seattle seems to be devided, moving north sounds like a good idea seeing bush is going to kill any rights we once had. posted by: lawngnome (reply) post date: 11.08.04 (2:53 pm) "PS: what's the job market like?" I second that question. :) posted by: koby (reply) post date: 11.08.04 (4:39 pm) Reply to: lawngnome I guess it depends what you do, but overall Vancouver’s economy is doing fine. Outside the Lower Main Land is different matter. Much of BC is dependent on the resource industry and Bush’s soft wood lumber tariff has really hurt. Wages are lower than in many US cities and taxes are higher – a real double whammy. However, the cost of living, while high by Canadian standards, pales in comparison to, say, New York or SF. (Canadian cities are cheap by international standards. The most expensive Canadian city is Toronto (population 5-6 million). It places 67th, I think, on a ranking of the world’s most expensive cities. In addition, public education is much better. There are disparities, but the system of funding is not based on local taxes. Finally, the public health care makes a real difference. The problem with Americans wanting to come to Canada is that those that would most benefit from such a move economically do not make the grade and those that can, would be hurt finically. From what I remember of a study awhile back, the top 20% of wage earners are better off in the States and the bottom 50% are much better off in Canada. I think it was wash for the other 30%. One of things that I like about Vancouver is the level of racial mixing. You simply do not have the convergence of race and class that you do in the States. In a series of articles published in the Vancouver Sun, Vancouver apparently tops the charts in terms of the percentage of interracial couples and other factors associated with racial harmony. There are regions of Vancouver were there is hardly a white person to be found. However, there are no white enclaves and one can not play spot the minority at the Canucks game the way Saturday Night Live can play spot the minority at a Knicks’ game. If it means anything at all, Vancouver regularly has placed, as long as I can remember, anywhere from 1st to 3rd on the UN’s top city ranking. The last point I would make is this: Canada is steadily becoming more and more socially Liberal. This is particularly true of Vancouver. Besides, gay marriage there is very strong support for decriminalizing marijuana (78 %) and in BC the majority of the population favors straight out legalization. No mayor is more socially progressive than Vancouver’s major Campbell. Campbell was given a board mandate -- the most lopsided municipal election in Vancouver’s history actually – to implement safe injection sites. He has since started a program to give free heroin to addicts, he gave licenses to stores selling marijuana and made noise about a red light district. posted by: altricial (reply) post date: 11.08.04 (9:07 pm) I alwasys heard American cheese is called Canadian cheese in Canada. We like it that way." Canadians are healther than Americans. The least healthy States, from bad to worst. "Texas, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, Kentucky, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Florida, Alabama, West Virginia, Georgia, Arkansas, South Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi and Louisiana." They are all Red States! posted by: koby (reply) post date: 11.09.04 (11:23 am) another thing to consider, watch the dollar. The Canadian dollar shot up against the US dollar. This is bad for those wanting to move to Canada. Your money is after all worth less, but you can take solace in the fact that Canadian wages are going up and up vis-via the US wages. :-] posted by: newbie (reply) post date: 11.30.04 (5:25 pm) America is Gods Country Read the Bible it may change your view. posted by: newbie (reply) post date: 11.30.04 (5:34 pm) Reply to: hines2damax The bible states in 5 different areas about homsexual rerferences that its a sin and GOd will judge them in the end posted by: newbie (reply) post date: 11.30.04 (5:36 pm) Reply to: hines2damax God loves all people as we do but *** hates the sin of men. posted by: koby (reply) post date: 12.02.04 (8:25 pm) Reply to: newbie What you are saying is that homosexuality is wrong because god says so. This is troublesome in and of itself, but when you factor that huge portion of the population does not believe in God, well there really is a problem. posted by: wgey odvzwrm (reply) post date: 02.10.07 (12:11 pm) rklfbo fjgaox bljqzatr yicfebdk zugircs vhwnfyt stbxp |
